Historical Mittens

I am a history buff, or I like to think I am, anyways. So when I looked through the current issue of Knitty, and saw they included a pattern for mittens taken from Elenor Roosevelt's notes, I just had to share! And I also want to remind myself where I saw them, and that I want to make them later, lol. I think they are very nifty.

If you've never checked out knitty before, do so! It's free, and they always have interesting things going on. They are nothing if not inspiring.

With only 4 (!!) days til christmas I felt an update of my list was in order so here goes: Bold means its done.

  1. Capes for Kids
  2. Princess Necklaces and Bracelets for Baby Girl
  3. Felt Playmat for Little Man
  4. Autumn Afghan for Grandma - made her a shirt with kids' handprints instead
  5. Keyhole Bowtie for Nina K
  6. Something secret for KG.
  7. Something for Ma
  8. Something for JG
  9. Sweater for my Mother in law.
  10. Plastic Canvas DS Case (in the shape of a classic Nintendo Controller) for Sister in Law.
  11. Tin full of fudge or cookies for Father in law.
  12. Embroidered Dish towel for KA.
  13. Embroidered Tardis shirt for AJ.
  14. Something secret for J.
I'm quite happy with my progress. To be honest, I didn't think I would get this much done. I tend to be a big thinker, and a little doer. But I guess, I've been feeling productive these days! Just a few things left! And Hopefully, I can grab pics of everything with their owners. Except the dish towel, it's already gone off and I forgot all about getting the pic, oh well. You'll just have to trust that it was nicely done, and she loved it.

We will probably be working on #11 sometime today, as the In Laws are coming over on the 23rd to celebrate with us before the Father in Law goes out of town.

I have to admit, I thought this all might've been a bit much for me, and it might've overwhelmed me, but it's made me Soooooo very happy to working on these gifts with my own two hands. I feel more in the christmas spirit this year than ever before. Like I'm one of santa's elves or something. Goofy I know! But it's lifted my spirits so much, I can't believe it. Making things for others, and taking a looooong time doing it, it feels great. Sitting there, thinking about them with each stitch, or cut, whatever, thinking about the look on their faces, and how much they will love it. I love it. Ahhh. It really is the most wonderful time of the year!

Making a List, Checking it twice

Have I mentioned that our family is doing a homemade christmas this year? Yep, that means we (if by "we" you understand it's mainly me) make all the gifts. It feels like Christmas is chrashing down upon me! 8 days?! I'm not even close to done yet! AHHH! So to help me keep track, here's my list, bold mean it's done.

  1. Capes for Kids
  2. Princess Bracelets and Necklace for Baby Girl
  3. Felt Playmat for Little Man
  4. Autumn Lapghan for Grandma
  5. Keyhole Bowtie for friend.
  6. secret something for KG. (she might read this, can't be too careful!)
  7. Something for my Ma....I still haven't figured out what yet! Ack!
  8. Something for JG, what do you make for toddlers anyways?
  9. Sweater for Mother in Law
  10. Plastic Canvas DS Case for Sister in Law
  11. Tin full of fudge or cookies for Father in Law
  12. Embroidered Dish Towel for KA
  13. Embroidered Tardis Shirt For AJ.
  14. Something Secret for J.

Hubby and I finished the capes last night, but I totally forgot to snap a pic before they were boxed up and wrapped. Today's goal is to figure out what to make for JG, and start on Little Man's playmat tonight.

Knitted Christmas Gifts and a new project

A sweater for my mother in law. This is the first adult size sweater I've knit, and I have to admit, the seeming miles of plain white stockinette stitch was making me twitch. But it's done! I taught myself to knit mostly from books, and seams are the things I can't quite get. Anyone have any good resources for learning how to seam?

Here is part of an Lapghan I'm making for my Grandma. It's made in five scarf like panels, and I have two done, working on the third. Seeing as there are only 9 days til christmas, I'm fairly sure that this won't be done in time. Lucky for me, I have a back up gift for her, teehee. Why does that make me feel sneaky? lol.

I loved knitting this little ditty. It's the Keyhole Bowtie from the Fall 09 of Knit Simple mag. I used I Love This Cotton! from Hobby Lobby, and it's really soft! Sorry for the crappy picture quality, I only had my camera phone on me!

This is the next project on my list. Or one of them anyways. Can you guess what it is?? It's a secret project so I can't say yet, but I will post after they get it.

Christmas. I love it, it really is the most wonderful time of the year. I love the christmas songs everywhere, the cuddling up in front of the TV with my kids to watch christmas movies, the hot cocoa on cold nights, and of course, the knitting. Curling up on my favorite side of the couch, with a big ol' pile of yarn. Ahhhh, I love it. What are some of your favorite christmas things?
